Here is a step by step guide on how to use Trunk Club Women and what I got for a holiday party.

Trunk Club Women is a great service:

  • If you need a cute outfit for an event and don’t have time to shop
  • You don’t enjoy shopping but you do like looking good
  • You want someone to help you style outfits and put a complete look together
  • You want to add a few current pieces to your Winter wardrobe

Step 1:  Go to the site:  http://www.trunkclub.com/invite/APLJPZ

You’ll be prompted to answer a series of brief questions.  First, you specify your preferred style, what you’re shopping for, clothing colors, patterns, etc.  Then you’ll answer body type-related questions, like areas on your body you’d like to disguise, and what fit of jeans you prefer and what you’re looking for in shoes.  Finally, you’ll give some price ranges that fit your budget and, favorite brands.  Presto! Your account is set up.

Step 2:  One of Trunk Club’s stylists will contact you to get more specifics on what you’re shopping for.  They’ll create a virtual “look book” before your items are shipped, so you’ll be able to edit what items show up at your door (i.e.  omitting ones you know you wouldn’t wear, not your style, etc.)  You’ll also have an opportunity to give your stylist feedback, so they’ll be able to refine what items they pick for you or add anything that is missing.

Trunk Club for Women

Step 3

Your trunk arrives at your doorstep!  Take your time trying on each item, so you see what you’d like to keep.  My stylist Lyndsey even sent me ways to style each outfit.

Trunk Club for Women Box

Step 4

After trying everything on, you’ll be able to give feedback (i.e.  item is too big, own similar item, didn’t fit, etc.)  After you have decided what you want to keep you schedule a pickup via the Trunk Club app and it’s as simple as selecting the day, Trunk Club sends you a shipping label and you set it on your porch.  DONE.  It doesn’t get any easier than that!

Here is what was in my recent trunk:

Another great perk of Trunk Club is if you need anything altered, all you do is take the item(s) and your receipt to any Nordstrom; they’ll take care of the rest.

If you like anything from my trunk, all of those items are available or order your own trunk, you deserve it.  🙂

Fitting room frenzy at J Crew Outlet.

This past weekend I made a whirlwind trip to the Premium Outmall Mall  and had to share some of the cute coat finds from JCrew Factory Outlet.  Everything is on sale.

I love winter coats because I work in and out of my car all day long.  There are some days I don’t take my coat off so I’m always on the lookout for cute coats each season.

Here are five of my favorite coats from JCrew factory outlet.

The Classic Trench Wool Coat

For more expensive pieces in my wardrobe I tend to have a classic style.  That is why I ADORE this wool topcoat.  I cannot decide what color to buy.  I tried on a size 6 in the navy and it was too roomy even with the sweater on.  The camel/sand color I tried on the size 4 it fit great but if you tend to wear heavy bulky items in the fall and winter it may be too snug.

The Vail Parka coat with fur hood

I’ll admit  I love all things fur so I had to try this coat on.  This was a size 4 and needed a 2.  This coat tends to run really big so I’d size down one.

The quilted vest and coat

In the fall I love layering with quilted vests while I’m out running errands, hiking with my boys, or even for a more casual look for work.  They have 6 fun colors.  This layer adds so much polish to an outfit.  Then when you need more warmth they have the casual quilted coats.  They are so comfortable and come in several colors.  I wore a small and that size was perfect.

These tops are fall and winter staples.  The navy and white gingham button down can take you from work to weekend.

I am obsessed with the navy and white striped waffle funnel neck sweatshirt.  Its longer so it covers your rear.  Perfect for jeans or with leggings and runs true to size.  You will be weekend ready in a flash.

XOXO  Sarah

Target Style Update:   Hearth & Hand with Magnolia launched Sunday.

Here are 5 Hearth & Hand pieces to update your dining table for Fall.

  1. Linen X Table Runner
  2. Wood decorative bowl
  3. 4 Leg Large Tray
  4. Striped Napkins
  5. Pine Garland
  6. Potholders

These pieces are so versatile.  I was excited to have some updates for Fall and Thanksgiving but they will easily transition for holiday.

Starting with the cream X linen table runner as a base I added the garland on top.  The color works perfect for my house and dining room.  I used my existing chargers and plates and added the black and cream striped napkin.  I am obsessed with all the beautiful fall colors so I wanted to stick to a natural fall look.  I grabbed my pumpkin from Halloween and took my boys out on a nature scavenger hunt to see who could find the biggest leaf.  I also cut some branches of pretty fall leaves and evergreen to fill in the faux garland.  This is a fun way to decorate for Fall without spending a lot of money.

On my mantle I used the decorative bowl and some textural balls I already had.  I love decorating with texture while keeping colors neutral.  It creates so many fun places to draw your eye.

Decorative Bowl

In the kitchen I had to have the beautiful 4 leg tray and it was time to trash my old potholders.  This tray will make anything look amazing.  The boys and I experimented with a 3 ingredient no bake cookie bark so we plated it up on the new tray.  I’m a big believer for everything if you buy it, use it.  It doesn’t need to be a “special” occasion to use fancy pieces in the kitchen. How amazing would a cheese plate look and taste on this board?

The O’Fallon Brewery pumpkin pack is one of my favorite treats when it hits the shelf at Dierbergs during the fall season.  These tasty brews will have you looking forward to autumn every year.  The popularity of the O’Fallon Pumpkin Pack is so high though, they fly off the shelves shortly after being stocked.  Last year I could not find it anywhere.  This year I decided to plan ahead reserve a Pumpkin pack and and host a pumpkin beer tasting party because there’s nothing like enjoying the Fall season with your girlfriends.

How to host a pumpkin beer tasting party

  • Set a date
  • Find a venue
  • Contact the venue
  • Think about food and drinks
  • Have an activity
Pumpkin_Beer
O’Fallon Brewery Pumpkin Pack

1. Set A Date:

Talk to your friends and see who is interested in attending and what dates and times work best.  I wanted to keep this group to between 6-10 people since I wasn’t having it at my house.  This makes it easier to talk to everyone too.   I decided 8:00 p.m. was a good time, I wanted to squeeze in a little quality time with my boys after work and have time to freshen up, before heading out.

2.  Find a venue:

Many times hosting at your house is the natural option.  If you’re like me, hosting a party at my house can be stressful after working all week.  Picking a neutral location can make it a lot more enjoyable because you won’t have to worry about getting your house picked up prior to your guests arriving, and cleanup is a snap.  The Dierbergs in Des Peres on Manchester Rd. was an ideal location for this party because it features a balcony area by the main entrance, they provide glassware, and every Friday night there’s a live band.  Plus, unlike at a restaurant, you won’t have to worry about how long your party runs and if you’re occupying much-needed tables during busy times.  Think outside the box when deciding on a venue.  It’s more important to get together than to have the perfect setting.   Some other options are  Park pavilions, Recreation facility, church hall, private rooms or alcoves at restaurants, your neighborhood clubhouse and coffee shops.

3.  Contact the venue and find out all the details.

It’s important to note any policies they might have, so you don’t have any snags once you arrive.

4.  Think about the food and drinks:

If you love cooking, making your own food items for the party is a great cost-saving approach.  However, I literally did one-stop-shopping at Dierbergs for my food and drinks.  The beer was not the only item that was pumpkin themed  here is what I got:

  • O’Fallon Brewery Pumpkin Beer 12-pack, which included flavors like “Jack O’ Latte”, and “Pumpkin Bread”
  • Sweet bakery items: pumpkin gooey butter cake bites,  pumpkin cupcakes, and scones.  I asked Dierberg’s to put this together for me since I was sticking to a pumpkin theme.  They were easy to work with and charged me for the food and a few extra dollars for the platter so just ask them if you want something you don’t see.
Pumpkin_platter_of_treats
Pumpkin_platter

5. Have an activity:

I like to have some sort of activity or simple icebreaker, especially if your friends don’t all know each other already.  I thought  it would be fun to get my friends’ engaged in tasting each beer, so my husband created a pumpkin beer tasting sheet.  Then they can make comments and grade each flavor.  The results from my tasting had the classic O’Fallon Pumpkin Beer claiming the blue ribbon, and O’Fallon Jack O’ Latte was runner-up.

The food winner was far-and-away pumpkin gooey butter cake bites, followed by pumpkin cupcakes.

So, what’s your favorite pumpkin-themed recipe?  Is it a scrumptious sweet item, savory entree, or are you a novice brewer who makes your own pumpkin beer?

Happy Fall everyone!

XOXO Sarah

Nordstrom-Tunic

This tunic is such a versatile piece.  Since Fall weather will be here any day now we’ll be looking for longer sleeves.  These tops come in several colors and are a little longer if you are like me and don’t want short tops when I’m sporting my leggings.

You can wear these tops with jeans, leggings, and even faux leather pants.

Since I am all about the layers for a more polished look I love this with the faux fur vest I got last year.  It would also be adorable with a moto vest or cardigan.

This jewelry is icing on the cake.  Collections by Joya a locally based St Louis company designed this amazing tassel necklace, bracelet, and drusey ring.  It completes the entire look to perfection.

This week of Target Style is all about fun graphic T’s and my favorite “Boo your neighbor” tradition.

It doesn’t have to be the holiday season to remind your kids to always have a giving spirit.  I like to find fun traditions throughout the year that reminds my two kiddos that you should always think of others.  As Halloween approaches, it’s the perfect time to “Boo” your neighbor.  While it’s about catching them off guard, it has everything to do with making them laugh instead of scream in fear.

Here are the steps on how to “boo”:  First, you’ll need a container.  A bucket works best because it provides for a better presentation of its contents.  Target or Dollar Tree will have a large selection of these.

Next, it’s time to fill your bucket with goodies.  While kids try to get as much candy on Halloween, the items that go into your “Boo Bucket” don’t necessarily have to tame the sweet tooth.  I like to include stickers, games and other non-food items that will entertain them.  A good cost-saving strategy is to purchase your Boo supplies right after Halloween the year before because everything will be on sale.

Lastly, include a flyer that describes what it means to get “booed”, and what your neighbors need to do next.  They’re instructed to first put the “I’ve been booed” sign in on their door.  Next, they’ll need to boo two other neighbors.

Now it’s time to head out.  To get your kids excited, explain that this is a “top secret mission” and they must be super quiet as to make sure the neighbor doesn’t hear them.  Make sure to wear dark clothing so you’re not spotted, but take a good flashlight.

Get in a good viewing spot where you’re close to your target house, but also where you can’t be seen.  When the coast is clear, run to the door, ring the doorbell drop the bucket of treats and then take off as fast as you can back to your hiding spot.  Watch the door to see if someone opens it, and finds the Boo Bucket.  It’s fun to watch your neighbor’s reaction to such a fun surprise.  Repeat the process for your next neighbor.

In the following days, your kids will be checking the door every hour to see if you were booed.  The best is when you’re home and get booed, and try to guess who was the sneaky neighbor.

This is a sure-fire activity to get your kids even more excited about Halloween, and you’re also teaching them an important lesson about giving.

What are your favorite Halloween traditions?
